How to download YouTube and Google videos.

There are many ways to do download YouTube videos. You could install some software or use a website to download and convert videos, but the easiest way is to install the firefox plugin.

If you don’t use firefox (here’s why you should), then there are many sites out there that let you download YouTube videos. I recommend these:

1. http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php
2. http://www.downloadyoutubevideos.com/
3. http://www.downloader9.com/

As to software for downloading and converting .flv YouTube and Google videos, YouTube Downloader seems to be the best.

See for yourself which one of the methods you like best and happy downloading!

Stop Noise

When using 3rd party burning software (eg, Nero Burning Rom) to copy audio
CD,some noise may be heard at the end of each track. To prevent this,try the
following method:
1. Enter System Properties\device manager
2. Select IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
3. Double click on thee CD writer IDE channel
4. Select advance setting
5. Change the transfer mode to 'PIO Only'
6. Restart Computer

Automatically Killing Tasks on Shutdown

You know the drill. You start to shut down the computer, you wait a few moments,
and then you see a dialog box asking if you want to kill an application or service that
is running. Instead of prompting you, you can make Windows XP take care of the kill
task automatically. Here's how:
1. Open the Registry Editor.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
3. Highlight the value AutoEndTasks and change the value to 1.
4. Close the Registry Editor.

Speeding Up the Dual-Boot Timeout

If you dual-boot your computer with Windows XP and another operating system, you
see an operating system selection menu on startup. If you typically boot into Windows
XP and not the other operating system, you can speed up the dual-boot timeout value
so that you do not wait so long for the boot process to select your default operating
system and continue with the boot process. The default timeout value is 30 seconds
but you can change this setting to 10. This gives you enough time to select the
alternate operating system if you want but also speeds up the boot process. You can skip this section if you do not use a dual-boot configuration.

Follow these steps:
1. Locate the boot.ini file on your computer. It is a hidden file by default; mine is
located in C:\boot.ini.
2. Open the file with Notepad (which is what opens it by default).
3. Change the Timeout value to 10.
4. Select File/Save and close Notepad.

Disabling the Boot Logo .

You can remove the boot logo that appears when you start Windows XP. This little
tweak probably shaves only a few seconds off your boot time but seconds count if you
are serious about trying to get Windows XP up and running as quickly as possible.
The only negative is that if you remove the boot logo, you will also not see any boot
messages, such as check disk.
To remove the boot logo, follow these steps:
1. Select Start/Run, type msconfig, and click OK.
2. In the System Configuration Utility, click the BOOT.INI tab.
3. On the BOOT.INI tab, click the NOGUIBOOT check box option. Click OK.

Stop Error Messages from Displaying on Startup .

If you constantly see an error message that you can't get rid offor example, from a
piece of software that didn't uninstall properly and continues to give errors on
startupyou can disable it from displaying on startup. Run the Registry Editor and go to
HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows. (This
key holds a variety of Windows system settings, such as the location of your system
directory.) Create a new DWORD called NoPopupsOnBoot and give it a value of 1.
Exit the Registry and reboot for the setting to take effect. To disable it, either delete
the DWORD value or give it a value of 0.

PC sales to decline 11.9% in 2009

The PC industry will experience its sharpest unit decline in history, with PC shipments totaling 257 mln units in 2009, an 11.9% decline from 2008, according to Gartner. Previously, PC units experienced their worst decline in 2001 when unit shipments contracted 3.2%. Up to this point, emerging markets collectively recorded their lowest growth in 2002, 11.1%. Mature markets recorded their lowest growth in 2001, negative 7.9%. Both emerging and mature markets will handily surpass these previous lows in 2009, with emerging markets expected to post a decline of 10.4% and mature markets a decline of 13%.

Worldwide mobile PC shipments are expected to reach 155.6 mln units, a 9% increase from 2008. Desk-based PC shipments are forecast to total 101.4 mln units, a 31.9% decline from 2008. Mobile PC growth will be substantially boosted by continued growth in mini-notebook shipments; excluding mini-notebooks, other mobile PC shipments will grow just 2.7% in 2009. Worldwide mini-notebook shipments are forecast to total 21 mln units in 2009, up from 2008 shipments of 11.7 mln units. Mini-notebooks will cushion the overall PC market slowdown, but they remain too few to prevent the market’s steep decline. Mini-notebooks are forecast to represent just 8% of PC shipments in 2009.

Firefox 3.0.7 fixes 47 bugs, 17 critical...

The latest update to Firefox pushed out to users last night via automatic update addresses 47 bugs and enhancements, according to Mozilla. 17 bugs were marked as “critical” or higher.

Five potential security vulnerabilities were patched including these 3 that were marked as “critical”:

* MFSA 2009-10 Upgrade PNG library to fix memory safety hazards
* MFSA 2009-08 Mozilla Firefox XUL Linked Clones Double Free Vulnerability
* MFSA 2009-07 Crashes with evidence of memory corruption (rv:1.9.0.7)

Glenn Randers-Pehrson, Martijn Wargers, Jesse Ruderman, Josh Soref, Gary Kwong, and Timothee Groleau were credited with identifying and reporting the problems.

Most of the issues involve common C/C++ memory management bugs such as freeing uninitialized memory or memory that has already been freed. If Firefox were written in Java or C# or any language with automatic garbage collection they wouldn’t have these problems, I’m just saying…

Mozilla has been updating Firefox 3 approximately once a month since its release in June of last year. Here’s a list of all the updates so far:

* v3.0.7, released March 4, 2009
* v3.0.6, released February 3, 2009
* v3.0.5, released December 16, 2008
* v3.0.4, released November 12, 2008
* v3.0.3, released September 26, 2008
* v3.0.2, released September 23, 2008
* v3.0.1, released July 16, 2008
* v3.0, released June 17, 2008

Automatic Screen Refresh

When you make changes to your file system and use Explorer, the changes are not usually displayed until you press the F5 key
To refresh automatically:
1. Open RegEdit
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update
3. Set the value name "UpdateMode" to 1

Speed up Detailed view in Explorer

If you like to view your files in Windows Explorer using the "Details" view
here is a tweak to speed up the listing of file attributes:

Viewing files in Windows Explorer using the "Details" mode shows various attributes
associated with each file shown. Some of these must be retrieved from the
individual files when you click on the directory for viewing.
For a directory with numerous and relatively large files
(such as a folder in which one stores media, eg: *.mp3's, *.avi's etc.)
Windows Explorer lags as it reads through each one. Here's how to disable viewing of
unwanted attributes and speed up file browsing:

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Navigate to the folder which you wish to optimize.
3. In "Details" mode right click the bar at the top which displays the names of the attribute columns.
4. Uncheck any that are unwanted/unneeded.

Explorer will apply your preferences immediately, and longs lists of unnecessary attributes will not be displayed.
Likewise, one may choose to display any information which is regarded as needed, getting more out of Explorer.

Shutdown XP Faster

When a user shuts down Windows XP, first the system has to kill all services
currently running. Every once in a while the service does not shut down
instantly and windows gives it a change to shut down on its own before it kills it.
This amount of time that windows waits is stored in the system registry.
If you modify this setting, then windows will kill the service earlier. To modify
the setting, follow the directions below:

Start Regedit.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.
Click on the "Control" Folder.
Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
Right click on it and select Modify.
Set it a value lower than 2000 (Mine is set to 200).

The default speed of the Start Menu is pretty slow, but you can fix that by editing a Registry Key. Fire up the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop \ MenuShowDelay

By default, the value is 400. Change this to a smaller value, such as 0, to speed it up.

Speed up the Start Menu (Part two)

If your confounded by the slow speed of the Start Menu, even after using the tip above, then you might try the following: Navigate to Display Properties then Appearance then Advanced and turn off the option titled Show menu shadow . You will get much better overall performance.

Change Web Page Font Size on the Fly

If your mouse contains a wheel for scrolling, you can change font size on the fly when viewing a Web page. To do so:

Press and hold Ctrl. Scroll down (or towards yourself) to enlarge the font size. Scroll up (or away from yourself) to reduce the font size.

You might find it useful to reduce font size when printing a Web page, so that you can fit more content on the page.

Download Top Ten Facebook Applications

Facebook helps you connect and share with the people in your life. Some of the best, useful and interesting Facebook applications, which I found are as below :-

1] iLike - Add you favorite songs on this app and see who else likes it. Also, add up coming music concert you are planning to visit and you might have company! The best part of this application is the “Challenge”. Click on Play Challenge and it starts playing songs and asks you to identify the song, album, artist, etc… believe me its addictive.

2] Free Gift - It’s a silly little application which probably does not make sense to most of us, But as creator Zachary Allia, says “It’s the thought that counts.” You can send and receive gifts with this application.

3] MeetingWave - This is a useful application that allows users to meet new business contacts, clients or even prospective employers. All a user needs to do is post a Private Invite for a business meeting in the real world, set the time, date and venue for the meeting and wait till somebody from the Facebook world accepts his or her invite.

4] MyDocuments – This application sounds like Microsoft Windows but works like Google Docs. Users can upload any types of document on their Facebook accounts, then share it with their friends.

5] Send SMS Text Messaging – This application lets users specify Facebook contacts who can send messages directly to their cell phone from Facebook. Users’ mobile phone numbers are kept confidential to avoid spam and prevent unnecessary text messages.

6] Call Me on Skype - For those who still likes using Skype, here’s a nifty application that sits right on their Facebook profile. It lets users call friends for free, start group chats and call landlines and mobiles.

7] Virtual iPhone - If you’re wondering how this application came to be on our list of useful Facebook applications, it can save users hundred bucks if they’re considering an iPhone. It is the closest thing to owning and using an iPhone without having to spend the money. If you don’t like it, you can always stop using it and think of all the money you’ll save.

8] Super Wall – This is one of Facebook’s most popular application and it ought to be useful as well. This application lets users share photos, videos, graffiti and more with their Facebook friends. Why is this useful? Because it breaks the barrier of seriousness among some friends who may not be involved with Facebook. Some of these Super Walls may be quite annoying at times, but the application serves its own purpose and seems to be doing this with flying colors.

9] Graffiti - It is a simple application which lets you put your imagination at work and come up with colorful Graffiti. These Graffiti can be sent to your friends or they can just hang on your Graffiti wall and visitors can leave comments and also respond by drawing something for you.

10] My Personality - This app is based on psychological personality questionnaire used in actual scientific research. Once you select this app, you will have to answer about 15-20 questions after you personality profile is created, mostly you will agree with the profile however if you don’t then you can answer additional questions. You can answer up to 100 questions to make an accurate profile.

Guys, if you know any other good Facebook Applications, let everyone know !!

Orkut Introduced A Safety Filter To Remove Adult Content

India's number one social networking site "Orkut" has introduced a "safety filter" that automatically filters out adult content such as sexually suggestive phrases or images.

The filter has been introduced in India, and is turned on by default for all the users. Google plans to introduce it in other countries in the next few weeks.

The new filter monitors and filters the content that may violate Orkut's community standards. The new filter will likely vary from country to country or from one household to another. Users have the option to turn off the filter.

With the "Safety Filter" on, If a user come across the content such as photos or text that they may find unacceptable, they will receive a warning and the specific content will be replaced by special icons.

However, according to Orkut, no filter is fully accurate and so users may come across a page that they think should be blocked. Users can flag it as usual and let Orkut know.

Top mobile sites and top PC sites

Mobile users accessing Facebook spend an average of 24 minutes per day on the site, similar to the 27.5 minutes spent by PC users. Mobile users on Facebook averaged 3.3 visits per day versus 2.3 visits per day by PC users. Mobile is used consistently throughout the whole day, but the early morning (7-10am) is the key day part for mobile, accounting for 22% of total mobile minutes browsed, compared with only 11% of total minutes browsed by PC Internet users in the same day part. Mobile can therefore act as an extension to media such as the Internet and TV, while it reinforces other early morning media, such as radio and newspapers. Mobile is confirmed as a strong youth medium with 48% of users between 18-34 years old, compared to 40% for the fixed Internet and 29% for the TV audience. Mobile is also more skewed towards men, who represent 63% of total users compared with 53% for the fixed Internet.
